The voyage begins. It was hard to get here, our Luggage is lost. well mine isn't and laura has hers. But the APsdon't have theirs. Idon't want to hink about tht part right now. my toe is definately broken, wondering about signing up for a pedicure, with a broken toe.
we had a few hours on Athens. Laura and I went on Walk about. found a temple of Zeusand an arch ofHadrian.
yesterday morning we got up,still no bags.but we bravely went to the acropolis any way. It was lovely to get there early. I am looking for placeswhere you can feel the earth spin , and feel time roll back. it was difficult at the Acropolis, as they are reconstructing so much of it. I tend to be fascinated by off things. sure I took the standard pictures and used angle that cut the scaffolds and crane s out . something about litttle things . there were out croppings af marble in the path, a beautiful veined marble with seams of blood red through it. There were poppies growing in the cracks of th e stone work. Little splashed of dark red color . the trees and bushes growing out of the cracks. . the little alive pieces of now growing out of the past. I woke to dawn on the acropolis .
at teh museum of the Acropolis there were many things that drew me to them as pieces of common life. sculptures . "No Photo." "want to Photo" no time to draw. One piece was a alter about shoulder height with a niche in it. where a life size face was inset. the eyes hollowed out and inlaid so that they were eerily bright. It was an offering for the restoration of someones wifes' vision .atribute to Aesclepias
we did boat drills. Mother checked the life boats to be sure they had oars. Yes Martha, they have oars.
Morning in Mykonos. incredible sun rise. I can get coffee on the Pool deck at 6:30. and it is lovely . We sit around , drink coffee hve wonderful fruit for breakfast, good yoghurt( we're in greece after all) good coffee .
We aren't particularly interested inthe Resorts at Mykonos. took the tender in to town and got Mama and Joe hats and sunglasses (yes Joe is now running around in a pair of Dolce and Gabbana sun glasses that make him look a little like a bug) still no Luggage. But rumour has it that they have found it. and it will be o the boat at noon the staff on the boat and in the hotel were fantastic about it. But it makes a level of grumpy that is kind of sad.
